Implants - patient questions
Toothache is always a symptom that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Early consultation with the dentist can save us from irreversible changes and even tooth loss. If you feel pain while biting, this means that there is probably already deep damage to the dental nerve. Such pain is also characteristic of dead teeth and teeth in which the crown or root has fractured. A tooth reacting with pain to cold or hot food and drinks has probably already been irreparably damaged and the only salvation will be so-called root canal treatment. On the other hand, if you feel pain in multiple teeth in response to temperature, this may indicate hypersensitivity, resulting from exposed tooth necks. A patient interview and an assessment of the tooth based on an X-ray will identify the cause of the toothache and make it possible to tailor appropriate treatment.
A tooth fracture can occur as a result of biting into very hard food or due to impact. Sometimes small cracks are practically invisible, but they make themselves felt through the pain while biting or eating sweet, hot or cold food. If a tooth is broken as a result of an accident, stay calm and see a dentist as soon as possible. If possible, wrap the broken piece of tooth in damp gauze and take it with you. After seeing the fracture and an X-ray image, the dentist will determine whether there is a chance to cement the broken piece. Minor damage is most often restored using composites. With more significant damage, root canal treatment and fitting a prosthetic crown may be necessary. Occasionally, it is necessary to remove the remaining tooth and replace it with an implant or porcelain bridge.
Crooked teeth are not only an aesthetic problem, but they are also connected to greater susceptibility to decay, enamel abrasion and pressure on nerve endings, which can even cause headaches, so you should not underestimate this problem. The issue of crooked teeth definitely needs to be addressed. The most common solution is braces, but changing the shape and position of a tooth can also be done by fitting a porcelain veneer or cementing an all-ceramic crown. This usually requires only one appointment at the Polish dental office.
A piercing toothache experienced as a reaction to cold or hot meals and drinks or to inhaling cold air is a sign of hypersensitivity of the tooth necks. The right treatment of this ailment is chosen on the basis of its cause. Some of the causes include tartar, inflammation of the gums, periodontitis or bruxism. The dentist may also recommend products dedicated to people with tooth sensitivity.
Many factors influence the durability of a filling, although the most important one is its careful placement by the dentist. If a filling falls out, you need to act fast. If you can’t go see the dentist right away, use a temporary dental filling, which can be purchased at any pharmacy and which you can easily apply yourself. It is a good idea to brush your teeth thoroughly or rinse your mouth with mouthwash before putting it in. A filling applied at home will prevent bacteria from entering the tooth cavity.
A missing tooth is primarily an aesthetic problem, but missing teeth are also associated with impaired chewing function, which can cause distress to the distal gastrointestinal tract. Missing teeth also cause overloading of the remaining teeth and consequent tooth displacement. In order to prevent all of this, you need to fill in the gaps with implants, ceramic bridges or removable restorations. This should be done as soon as possible, because the process of natural bone loss begins straight after tooth extraction. If as a result of this process the bone structure no longer allows an implant to be fitted, an expensive and lengthy process of augmentation, or bone reconstruction, will be required.
Gaps between teeth negatively affect the aesthetics of our smile, especially gaps between the upper incisors, known as a diastema. Excessive interdental spaces also promote the accumulation of food debris there. The problem of gaps between teeth can be remedied in a variety of ways. The most common is the fitting of braces, but sometimes a single visit to the dentist’s office is enough to remedy the problem by fitting veneers or by using modern composite resins, which do not require grinding of the teeth.
Yellow teeth are a natural result of the enamel absorbing pigments from food and some drinks. Sometimes it is also the result of systemic diseases or of taking certain medications. To ensure you have a pearly white smile, you should visit your dentist for a teeth whitening treatment. Among the most popular teeth whitening methods are overlay (tray) whitening and Beyond lamp whitening. The second method allows us to achieve a white smile during just one appointment at the dental office and its effects last up to 2 years.
What our patients say:
Full professionalism and a friendly service! I went there with pain in my molar, I was afraid it would hurt, but I got a good anaesthetic and didn’t even feel a thing, and I had root canal treatment. The filling fits nicely and the shade is well chosen. Huge relief! The best Polish dentist in London!
